The poison of words
The 18-day war had aged Draupadi by 80 years. Both physically and mentally!
The city was filled with widows on all sides.
Men were scarce, only orphaned children were visible.
Amidst all of them, Queen Draupadi sat in the palace of Hastinapur, staring into emptiness.
Then Lord Krishna entered the room.
Draupadi ran to him and hugged him.
Krishna kept comforting her and let her cry.
After a while, he separated her and made her sit on the nearby bed.
Draupadi:
“What has happened, friend? I never thought it would come to this.”
Krishna:
“Destiny is very cruel, Panchali, it doesn’t work according to our wishes.
It changes our actions into consequences.
You wanted revenge, and you succeeded, Draupadi.
Your revenge is complete. Not just Duryodhana and Dushasana, but all the Kauravas are finished. You should be happy.”
Draupadi:
“Friend, have you come to soothe my wounds or to rub salt on them?”
Krishna: “No, Draupadi, I’ve come to familiarize you with reality.
We cannot see the consequences of our actions far ahead, and when they come before us, we have nothing left to do.”
Draupadi:
“So, Krishna, am I solely responsible for this war?”
Krishna: “No, Draupadi! Don’t consider yourself so important.
But if you had a little foresight in your actions, you wouldn’t have suffered so much.”
Draupadi:
“What could I have done, Krishna?”
Krishna: “When you had your swayamvara, you didn’t insult Karna and gave him a chance to participate, maybe the outcome would have been different.
After that, when Kunti ordered you to become the wife of five husbands, you didn’t accept it, but the consequences would have been different.
And then you humiliated Duryodhana in your palace.
That the sons of the blind are also blind.
If you hadn’t said that, your cheer-haran wouldn’t have happened.
Even then, perhaps the circumstances would have been different. And, we must weigh our every word before speaking…
Otherwise,
its adverse effects not only harm ourselves… but also continue to hurt our entire surroundings.
In the world, only humans have such a unique creature…
Whose “poison” is not in their “teeth”, but in their “words”…
So use words wisely.
Do not use such words that hurt someone’s feelings.
