Impact of Food on Human Life
〰️〰️〰️➖🌹➖〰️〰️〰️
👉 The order of food greatly influences human life. The more sattvic, pure, and appropriate the food consumed, the purer and more sattvic the mind and body of the individual become. Food acquired from lower sources and with lower emotions makes the human body unhealthy and impure. The saying “As the food, so the mind” is well known. The scriptures direct attention to the purity and cleanliness of food from production to consumption so that the elements and subtle impressions obtained from it do not distort and negatively affect the body, mind, and soul of the individual; its tendencies remain complete, pure, and appropriate, so that humanity progresses steadily on the higher levels.
👉 Food obtained through dependency, subjugation, or misconduct is already corrupted, but food obtained through begging is the most corrupted; whether acquired by asking for money or received as a meal. Begging for food is poison for the mind, intellect, and soul of a person. When a beggar asks for something, there is a sense of deprivation, inferiority, and sadness in his soul. He knows he is losing his self-respect by begging. If a beggar asks once when hungry, he often resorts to lying multiple times while begging. This is a kind of deceit for which neither his mind nor his conscience holds respect. It is not possible to obtain healthy elements from such contemptible food. Sometimes, due to the stubbornness of the giver and receiver, some food is given with disdain. The subtle impressions of food are corrupted by the negative emotions of both giver and receiver, which manifest as pitiful results in the bowl. This is why beggars continue to look deprived, inferior, and impure from eating sad food. Their bodies remain sickly, and their faces remain joyless. The person who eats “begging” food, no matter how nutritious, cannot remain healthy in any way.
