Keeping Needs Limited

👉 In personal life, how can we prevent scarcity, poverty, and destitution from destroying our natural peace and tranquility? The answer remains the same: we should limit our “needs” to the extent that we can fulfill them with our income alone. The saying “Stretch your feet only as far as your blanket” is a solution to remain happy and content in every situation. However, this principle is not only useful for personal use but also beneficial for social order.
👉 As needs increase, it becomes necessary to gather additional resources to fulfill them. It is no wonder that when a person’s increased needs have to be met, they may have to exert extra effort or even exceed their capabilities. When needs begin to grow, they never stop at any boundary. This situation, which is also necessary, gradually becomes important. Indeed, needs arise from desires. The mind sometimes considers one thing essential and sometimes another. And these needs, once fulfilled, give rise to new demands. Therefore, it can never be said with certainty that upon obtaining a certain thing, we will be satisfied and will not have any new demands.
👉 However, despite being aware of this fact, even knowledgeable people, while being fascinated, do not shy away from expanding their needs and resort to every appropriate and inappropriate means to fulfill them. All the crimes committed in the world, whether thefts, robberies, murders, bloodshed, or adultery, occur not because a person is inclined towards crimes but because their needs exceed their capabilities. And those needs arise to such an extent that despite having the ability, individuals are compelled to think and act on fulfilling them.
